How to Do a Fishtail Plait
If you, like us, have seen gorge fishtail plaits all over Pinterest and would love to recreate this look, but think it looks too complicated, then think again. They’re super easy when you know how! We’ve tried and tested fishtail plaits and know that it looks its best when it’s thick and lusciously long. If you haven’t got the length then don’t worry babe, our Hair Universe clip-in ponytails are here to save the day. Find out how to do a fishtail plait below.
    1. Start by clipping in a Hair Universe ponytail. Not sure how? Watch our YouTube tutorial on how to clip-in a ponytail Tie the ponytail at the nape of your neck. Don’t use your best hair tie as you might need to snip it at the end.

  1. Unlike a normal plait which requires three sections, a fishtail plait only needs two sections. Split your ponytail into two sections.
  2. Now it’s time to start plaiting. Separate a small section of your hair from the left side and overlap it over the left section.
  3. Tuck this piece of hair under the right section so that it then becomes part of the right section.
  4. Tighten the hair to ensure it looks its best; if you’d like a messier look you can always loosen it towards the end.
  5. Repeat the same process, but this time do it with the right section. Tuck it under the left section.
  6. Keep repeating this process until you have an inch of hair left at the bottom of the plait so there’s plenty of hair to tie off at the end.
  7. To make your plait look even, make sure that you use thinner strands towards the bottom.
  8. Secure your hair with a tie at the bottom.
  9. To make it look tousled, pull it apart loosely with your fingers.
  10. We also love a side fishtail plait! If you’d like this look, simply repeat the process above, but tie your ponytail on your preferred side.
